A global grassroots celebration

The Birmingham Museum of Art -- along with museums and galleries around the world -- will celebrate Slow Art Day on Saturday, April 28.

Unlock the secrets of works in the museum’s collection by cultivating the art of looking slowly. BMA docents ask and answer questions to help guide your slow art experience and foster conversation. Leave the museum feeling inspired – not tired!

On Slow Art Day, you'll have two opportunities: At 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. -- no reservations needed. Just show up for either, or both.

Spend an hour with a work of art. Look slowly, then join a gallery conversation with a museum docent.

The featured works:

11:00 a.m. - Odili Donald Odita, "Gravity's Rainbow," with docent Emily Omura
2:00 p.m. - Frank Stella, "Flin Flon VI," with docent Caroline Wingate

Slow Art Day

Slow Art Day is a global nonprofit with a simple mission: to promote the art of looking at art slowly.

Through this mission, we hope to increase the love of art and the support for museums, galleries and artists all over the world.

Our main activity each year is to organize the international Slow Art Day with volunteers in cities on every continent (yes, even Antaractica).
